No known restrictionsWhat is Open Museum?
Open Museum is a participatory exhibit space that permits creators, keepers and lovers of the arts to share (and connect around!) one rich object at a time.
What is its purpose?
Open Museum helps make the arts more accessible to everyone and supports museums in engaging people around their collections. We believe…
People + Objects = Museums
Where is it?
Open Museum, due for Beta release in 2010, is everywhere in the world where there is a participating member.
Who is it?
Open Museum is a community and a not-for-profit organization.
Open Museum was founded in 2008 by Jeff, Lauri and Maureen with the assistance of Heritance 501c3 and Zirgoflex L3c.
The contributing members provide the content and the connections that feed the site and fuel the community. Any one can join and qualified curators can build their own museums.
How does it sustain itself?
Open Museum, a free and not-for-profit service, has been funded exclusively through the generosity of our donors and the free elbow grease of its founders. In the future, Open Museum also hopes to raise revenue through fees for special services, sponsorships and grants. If you like what you see, consider making a tax deductible donation.

If you register and login you can view and post comments. (huh?)
One of the perks of membership is that you get to read and post comments on objects, museums, and other member's walls.
Comments aren't exactly secret (almost - though you do have to be 13 and have a working email address - anybody can register!) but they aren't totally public either - they aren't indexed by searched engines and the user agreement says you can't publish them elsewhere without their author's permission.
(And some users have chosen to restrict access to their personal walls - in which case you'll have to friend them before you can post to their wall.)
Please don't feel excluded. It doesn't cost anything to register. Just sign up and you'll be an insider in no time flat.
