On the French-Swiss border, a department road snakes across a forest. It links two Alsacien villages. Lost in this corner of Sundgau, we have our eyes fixed on the road map which shows us that the French highway ventures into a protuberance of Swiss territory that juts into France. An abnormal banality, an administrative complication etching itself on this aberration of a border.
By the side of the road, a miniscule but solid shack, laughable and abandoned, displays a hand-painted tricolor on its fascade, national emblem of territorial authority. Ridiculous symbol that materializes the imaginary line of the border. The customs house no longer plays any role in the geopolitical game.
