Perspective has its limitations, and before I become disenchanted, I like to play with it. This composition is a clear example of this process. When undertaking to paint a broad horizon, there are inevitably problems with aberrations. I am not going to write a treatise on perspective; I prefer to “paint it”. As for the curious spectator, I advise him to pay attention to the distinct manner, in which I painted the themes that keep repeating in the outer parts of each composition. And which compare two ways of painting the same thing. I must explain that I painted it all from the same point of view, my seat always being in the same place.
