So I’m going through my files today, putting together a lecture for an upcoming class. There will be a still-life with content assignment. I find this older still-life piece of mine, and realize it has great similarities to Nastagio’s Breakfast, finished yesterday. There is a female figure in peril, with beasts, coming towards us, about to go over into the abyss. Behind her a gun, in the train following her. On a different level, below her, the lizards are all running in the opposite direction, creating a counter-movement. As I’m looking it over I remember the title of the book I used in the front (here signed with my name, replacing the title)… Boccacio’s Decameron!!! I remember the book was so deteriorated that it left orange dust all over your hands when you picked it up.
