The third painting in Botticelli’s Nastagio series show Nastagio before the banquet he had arranged for the woman whom he loves, but who has no interest in him. Knowing that the ghosts will appear at a given time, he presents a sumptuous breakfast for the woman, her family, and friends. The knight tells the same story to the shocked guests, that the woman who did not return his love is now condemned to die eternally, being hunted down by the knight and his dogs.
