StarbucksMcDonald’s- they just redid this place- a McDonald’s in Sherman Oaks, the renovation made it seem less like a McDonald’s to me so I thought it would be okay to paint. I’d avoided McDonald’s as subject matter because it’s so pervasive that I thought it might be too obviously the type of place that interests me.
I like this angle of it, although the hallway that goes all the way to the back is fiction- there’s a coffee section there that blocks off the view of the deep fryer- something I couldn’t bear to leave out.

Marc…MacDonald’s also renovated the one near Michael’s old place in ABQ. Know what you mean about the totally different (and unwelcoming) feeling. Like McDonald’s does not want you to be too comfortable. It is also smaller. Nice job capturing the new “squeezed” feel there. Also here! Joe
Wow, this is beautiful. It’s so even and the lighting is so subtle. I love it! I think Grady’s “serenely ghastly” is on spot.
Wow, they made it look almost like an office, which is weird.
Just noticing how the room is made up of lines, and the people are curves, and those round lights above and round bar stools kind of even the score on circles vs lines….I don’t why I notice things like that….anyway, great painting Marc!
I agree excellent wood panels and composition..and the sterileness of it all…

Thanks Adriana, that fake wood is an important part of the lack of character of this place.

I agree with Scott on the face cutoff -a harsh and wonderful statement about our growing public anonymity. But I love the multiple use of rectangles throughout the piece – empty, serenely ghastly.

And just wait ’till your first bite of burger- then it all comes together!

Your figures are everyone and no one -making it easy for me to slip into their environment. I always feel like I’m viewing a dream while dreaming when looking at your work. Perfect “wood” color match!

Thank you Sarah! I like to balance the anonymity and specificity in the figures- one reason no one is ever looking out at the viewer.

Oh, I like this. The cut off face is great. Nice metaphor.
I don’t get a McD’s vibe until I get back to the counter. The rest looks even cheesier than most McDs… those circular ceiling decorations, the wood paneling.

Thank you Scott- I thought this on was particularly distinguished in it’s lack of distinction.
I hope you’re coming on Saturday to see it in person- I made you a parking reservation for valet- it’s on 2nd between Sycamore Main.
