Perhaps the biggest painting I’ve ever done. Tricky because of the perspective, patterns on the floor, and subtle indirect light shifts over large passages.
The interior was a private guest house in Havana called a casa particular. As a tourist you can choose to stay in private residences, licensed by the state. They had this fantastic old flat with plaster walls and old tile. The combination of faded blue tiles, mint green walls, ultramarine doors, and perfect diffused light was pure joy.

The composition of this painting is so pleasing to the eye, everything fits perfectly, including the size of the painting. The light blue tile is gorgeous and the colors are all so complementary- the darker blue of the door on the light blue of the tile across from the wood brown couch which is in front the beautiful grayish green wall. The reflection on the bottom of the white door is also executed perfectly. Bravo…
