This young girl became a subject for me after we met at an artists’ gathering. Over the past two years I have worked with her several times, and became a friend of the family. In March this year, she entered a true Underworld: she was killed by a young man attempting to kill himself. He aimed for a lamp-post, hit her instead. I will be painting her, I know for years to come, as a celebration of her wonderful bright loving character.
