This bas-relief was originally unpainted. After studying Picasso’s “Still life with Guitar and Books” at the Hood Museum on Slow Art day, I was much taken with his use of white. I came home and painted the vase part of the sculpture white. After looking at it for a while, I stained the whole thing burnt umber. Living in Vermont, I understand browns more than the sun baked white of Spanish stucco.
This piece took its theme from a new tune in Dm7 I was learning on the accordion called Pajdushko.
