When I was in high school listening to the radio I heard Mildred Bailey. Knocked my socks off. She preceded Billie Holiday as my favorite all time female vocalist (whom I first heard freshman year in college). And I guess she’s in QFAD because I ran out of great aunts and grandmothers to put in the piece. I am related to all of the other women, except Mildred Bailey and the woman next to her (found her photo in an urban salvage junk shop in Berkeley).
I’ve always meant to ask you this— what’s Mildred Bailey doing there? Have you ever heard her?
