When I first visit to the Museed’Orsay in Paris as a student, I was overwhelmed by Gustave Courbet’s painting The Studio, A Real Allegory of a Seven Year Phase in my Artistic and Moral Life.
When I finally set out to paint a studio interior with self portrait myself, I had waited several years for my memories of the painting to be sufficiently vague: I wanted my painting to be inspired by the feeling I got from the Courbet, rather then the particulars of the composition.

Wow, this needs to be seen in person for the scale to really hit you!
Fantastic image, Rup! And the scale… one kick ass painting. I have to spend a lot more time with it to get the full impact, but what a treat. Thanks for putting it up. Wow.

Because I don’t have an American gallery at the moment it will only be on display in Germany. In April on the Art Cologne and in Mai as part of an exhibition with the Bundesbank in Frankfurt.
I feel humbled. I too wish I could see this live. I did see an older, small, painting of yours at Wes Christensen’s home. Wonderful painting.
