The final sketch before the painting. No grid was required for transfer. The man is angled toward the large trees to the left, to initiate the spiral form. An automobile sits outside to be replaced by the boat. Certain elements of contemporary civilization simply disturbed the ‘mythologizing’ process of the series. I wanted a timeless quality to pervade, and identifiable models of cars, televisions, phones, etc., would have disturbed this.
