Strafford ARTWORKS

Strafford ARTWORKS was formed in 2002 by a group of Strafford, Vermont artists who meet regularly to network, share ideas, skills, resources and hold workshops as well as to plan and implement shows. The group comprises artists who live in Strafford, at least part time. We range in age from 30 to 85, and we work with oils, acrylics, clay, watercolors, pastels, crayons, photography, and wood.

Exhibit of new works by Deborah Frankel Reese
Bouquet_of_a_springtime_wind

“Yellow to Blue: From Here to There” will be shown in the Rubin Glass Hallway of the Dartmouth Hitchcock Medical Center, March 19 to May 30. The opening is Thursday March 28, 2013 from 4:30 to 6:00 in the Chilcott Lounge, Level 4.
In the show title, Deborah writes, “the ‘yellow’ represents a series of forsythia paintings, which is ‘here’, the ‘blue’ are all seascapes, ‘there’ being Nantucket, Massachusetts and Long Beach Island, New Jersey. ‘Here to there’ also represents my slow movement from an impressionistic realism to impressionistic abstraction. I have not escaped subject matter entirely, but I use the subject matter as bait, to pull the viewer in, meanwhile focusing on abstracted and simplified representation”.

I like to walk in the woods, especially in early summer when the warblers are coming through and the vernal pools are full of water and budding life. I love the unapproachable mud and rotting leaves of the acidic vernal pool.“Keep ...

Another work in the underwater series. This one employs more white than usual; it is also thickly applied paint. An appropriate painting to work on when the studio is so cold I’m working in hat, gloves, and down jacket.
