I entered the video world early on, straight from film making, when I bought my first Sony Porta-pak in 1972. Over the years I’ve worked in education, with dancers and other performers, produced documentaries on olive harvesting on Crete, glass art in the Czech Republic, and U.N. peace keeping in Macedonia. I’ve covered the operation and repair of classic steam locomotives and the restoration and sailing of the USS Constitution. Wherever I lived I produced pieces on local cultural affairs and tourism, most recently on Bainbridge Island, Washington. And for over twenty years I’ve shot short “demo” pieces for renowned artists, including Dale Chihuly, Stanislav Libensky, and Erte.
My favorite approach is one-on-one hand-held camera work done in my client’s personal work space. I call this “the apprentice eye view” approach, which always succeeds in capturing, in a relaxed manner, the personality of my subject at work.
