Creating just the right light is one of the greatest challenges a photographer will face. If we measure our eyes as seeing 100 tones from black to white, a camera can only capture 4 consecutive measurements of those tones. Michael James Slattery’s work is about bridging this gap. He uses old camera techniques, traditional darkroom manipulation, remarkable light capturing technology and archival printing methods to create these “Luminous Views”. These works captivate the dynamic range of our minds eye and celebrate the light in our surroundings. Famous painters have captured the beauty of dusk and dawn forever. As a photographer who has found a special way of capturing landscapes where we live Michael wants little more than to create these works.
