F. Scott Hess Museum : Like a Handful of Hot Coals
Like a Handful of Hot Coals
Like a Handful of Hot Coals
A comment I got on this piece said it looked like I had a ‘handful of hot coals’. I painted this in the bathroom, looking in the mirror where I brush my teeth. The cold outdoor light contrasts with the warm interior light coming down the hallway. That light struck me as carrying a metaphor of time passing, of some sort of ancestral passageway. And the striped shirt? Hell, I’m just a snappy dresser.
